Who I am and why I teach the way I do

My name is Ben. I have been fascinated with technology and teaching since I was a freshman in college. After spending time in a teacher prep program I realized how much technology was going to change the way we learn, so I decided that I wanted to be part of helping people to learn more effectively with technology. So, here I am today, teaching faculty and students at Westminster about how to use technology to learn.

My personal teaching philosophy is built on experiences I have built over the last several years. Here are some key points of what I believe in about teaching.
  1. Learning is constructed, yes I'm a constructivist
  2. People learn best when they have a problem and they have to work through it.
  3. Learning problems are more effective when it directly effects the learner.
  4. I've learned most of what I know outside of a classroom, so does everybody else.
  5. I believe that online learning is as effective as face-to-face instruction.
  6. Students are like customers and should be treated as such. They deserve to be each educators number 1 priority.
